APIs Mobilize's goal is to empower our next generation of leaders with the knowledge and skills to become effective leaders in the community and encourage their consideration of careers in the public service sector.
In 2018, with the support and leadership from Aimee Eng, president of the Oakland Unified School District, we launched our Bay Area (formerly East Bay) program to empower Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander youth in the region.
Twenty-five junior and senior students from Bay Area schools will be chosen to participate in a five-week summer youth leadership program. Our summer program consists of weekly seminars that help our participants to gain leadership skills and understand the democratic process through lectures by community leaders, elected officials, academics, professionals, artists, legislative staffers, and other experts.
The speakers serve as role models to students and the program workshops help students develop confidence, discipline, and skills they need to navigate through high school and prepare for graduation and college. The role models’ success stories inspire students to move through their own pathway to success and become leaders in their communities.
Mobilize students are eligible to apply for scholarships through our API Caucus Scholar award.
The youth leadership program is supported by Attorney General Rob Bonta and State Superintendent Tony Thurmond. The program is also supported by community organizations including Asian Pacific Islander Student Achievement (APISA), Asian Pacific Islander School Board Members Association (APISBMA), Lion Rock, AYPAL, and OCA - East Bay.
A big thank you to our program partners Aimee Eng, Former School Board Director OUSD, Laney College APASS Program, and Berkeley City College.
